This is the best LCC to Bangkok! Introducing efficient search methods

Hello, this is Macchan.

When you go to Thailand, do you go on a package tour that includes hotel and flight tickets?
Or would you rather book the hotel and flights yourself?

I do the latter, searching for cheap flights from the official websites of low-cost carriers (LCCs) and booking them myself.
So, what is the easiest way to find out which low-cost airline is best for traveling to Thailand?
This time, I will explain how to do it assuming you are going to Bangkok.

What is a low-cost airline LCC?

First, let me briefly explain low-cost carriers (LCCs).

LCC is an abbreviation for low-cost carrier, which refers to a low-cost airline.
Airlines that offer cheaper flight tickets by

narrowing the distance between seats, increasing the number of passengers that can be carried at once, and be.

Thanks to the efforts of various low-cost airlines, it is
now possible to travel overseas for the same amount (and often cheaper) than the cost of traveling within Japan.
In the past, overseas airline tickets used to cost no more than 100,000 yen, but now it's really a great time for travelers.

LCCs operating flights from Japan to Bangkok

The following four airlines mainly operate flights from Japan to Bangkok.

  • AirAsia
  • Scoot
  • JetStar
  • Peach
I will explain the characteristics of each.

AirAsia(Narita/Kansai Airport)

Official site

Malaysian low-cost airline.
It has the highest number of passengers among the LCCs departing from Japan and bound for Thailand. Direct flights between Japan and Thailand are operated by Thai AirAsia X.
Thai AirAsia X currently operates from Tokyo's Haneda, Narita and Osaka's Kansai International Airports.
There are also direct flights to Thailand from Tokyo and Osaka, and you
can now fly for less than 30,000 yen round trip, including all airport taxes and surcharges.

Scoot(Narita/Kansai Airport)

Official site

A new low-cost airline in Singapore.
Prior to 2015, the airline began operating flights between Kansai International Airport and Bangkok Don Mueang Airport, and since 2016 it has also started operating flights between Narita and Bangkok Don Mueang Airport.
that has partnerships with major overseas tour companies and is rapidly increasing its number of passengers.

JetStar (Kansai Airport)

Official site

Austrian low-cost airline.
For a while, we did a lot of TV commercials using celebrity Becky.
I still have an image of Becky.
There is no Narita-Bangkok flight here, only Kansai International Airport-Bangkok flight.

Peach Aviation(Naha)

Official site

A low-cost airline from Japan.

An LCC funded by All Nippon Airways (ANA), it launches the Naha-Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) route, the first route connecting Okinawa and Southeast Asia.

Which LCC is recommended for going to Bangkok? If you choose, it's definitely a direct flight.

I would like to highlight

AirAsia, Scoot, and JetStar, the three companies that have flights from Japan's two major international airports (Narita/Kansai Airport) (Sorry, Okinawa people.) Of the four companies listed above, JetStar does not have direct flights from Japan to Bangkok (as of December 2017).
Flights departing from Kansai International Airport take approximately 20 hours on average, including transfers.
The price is around 30,000 yen, which is not very cheap for an LCC, so it is not an option.

Which one would you choose, AirAsia or Scoot?

So, out of the remaining options, which is better, AirAsia or Scoot? These two companies have almost the same flight frequency and price range, so there is no difference in the level of recommendation, but I will forcefully draw out the difference between them.

How many flights?

AirAsia operates two outbound flights between Japan and Bangkok and two flights a day between Bangkok and Japan.
On the other hand, Scoot has two outbound flights, but three return flights approximately every day (please note that there are also connecting flights).
I think Scoot is the most flexible option as there are many options for return routes based on your schedule.

the price is?

LCC prices are determined by auction, and the lower the number of reserved seats, the lower the price, and the higher the number of reserved seats, the higher the price.
Therefore, the price is low at the beginning and becomes high towards the end, relative to the number of available seats on the same day.

This is why there are price differences even for the same flight and same grade. The lowest price for a direct flight to Bangkok for both AirAsia and Scoot is quite cheap at just over 10,000 yen.
If things go well, the round trip can be less than 30,000 yen including surcharge.
It's cheaper than taking the Shinkansen between Osaka and Tokyo in Japan.

wonderful. However, seats fill up quickly during the high season, so you
need to check frequently to get the lowest price.

If you are concerned about price, one option is to take a vacation on a cheaper flight. Scoot has recently become more popular, and it seems that the cheaper seats on Scoot tend to fill up faster.
Therefore, even if Scoot doesn't have cheap flights, AirAsia may still have them.

However, when making reservations on the official website, it is not possible to confirm the outbound and return flights for both companies at once. In response to such demands, convenient LCC bulk confirmation services have recently been increasing in number.

How to efficiently book cheap flights? Skyscanner is convenient and recommended

Skyscanner is a service that allows you to check the lowest prices from low-cost airlines around the world.
More than 1,200 airlines are eligible.
It's very convenient because you can search for the cheapest LCC flight for each outbound and return trip

It is convenient to check all low-cost airlines at once.

This site summarizes outbound and return flights and displays the best plans across airlines.
Please see the image below.

This is a search result for a direct flight between Narita and Bangkok on a certain date.
The lowest price during this period was AirAsia for both the outbound and return flights, but the third plan was Scoot for the outbound and AirAsia for the outbound.
Fourth, there is also a plan for the opposite.
In this way, candidate plans are displayed across airlines, so you can easily figure out in one go if you want to fly with one airline and return with another airline.
The price displayed in the search results includes all fuel surcharges, airport usage fees, and taxes, so the price will not increase beyond the displayed amount.

You can also switch tabs between cheapest and quickest, meeting the needs of ``cheaper!'' and ``faster!''.

Select "Details" to display links to travel agencies and airlines that handle this plan.
Of course, the schedule, destination, etc. will be embedded in the screen, so all you have to do is confirm it and make the payment.

Being skeptical, I checked to see if the search results were the same as the official price, and
of course they were. (Of course...)

Get notified when prices change with price alerts

Another useful feature is a notification feature called "Price Alert." This is a function that will notify you by email if there is a change in the price of the flight in the search results. You don't have to search for the lowest price over and over again. If you set a price alert for the date and route, you can book when the lowest price is available, which saves you time.

Select Receive price alerts.

Enter the notification email address.

You will receive an email; press the button to approve this email account.

If there is a price change, you will receive an email like this.
You can make a reservation using this link [Title: Prices from Tokyo to Bangkok have dropped. ]

Pearch's Okinawa-Bangkok flight is also quite attractive.

The Naha-Bangkok (and Suvarnabhumi Airport) route was newly established in 2017.
If you live in Okinawa, Peach is probably your only choice when it comes to Bangkok flights.
The lowest price is 9,980 yen (excluding taxes).

This is an exceptional price for just one person, Yukichi.
, I'm fantasizing that it would be nice to take a long vacation and go on a dream tropical sightseeing tour that crosses the border from sightseeing in Okinawa to Thailand
