[MRT Suttisan Station (สุทธิสาร)] Enjoy local markets and hidden spots that Japanese people don't know about

Hello, this is Macchan.

Where do you all stay at a hotel in Bangkok?

If you are looking for convenience, there are various places to stay depending on your purpose, such as around BTS Chidlom Station to BTS Asoke Station, or if you want to stay cheap by sharing a room, you can stay in Khao San, the backpacker's mecca. This time we will introduce the area around MRT Suttisan Station, which is not well known to Japanese people. I happened to know about this place through a cheap package tour, and although I didn't have any particular expectations, it turned out to be an interesting area with lots to see.

Location of MRT Sutthisan Station

MRT Suttisan Station is one of the stations on the Bangkok Metro (MRT) Blue Line, and is located about 20 minutes north of Sukhumvit Station, the main area in central Bangkok, about 5 stations north.

Enjoy the local market held on weekdays

Street stalls along Ratchadapisek Road

The main attraction in Sutissan is the market, which is held from Monday to Friday. As soon as you exit MRT Suttisan Station Exit 3, you will see an arcade space filled with stalls. It has a very local feel, and you rarely see Japanese people. You can fill your stomach with homemade side dishes and sweets, or buy T-shirts and clothing accessories. You can have a lot of fun just walking around. There's also a roof, so you don't have to worry about rainy days. You can enjoy shopping without getting wet.

At the back of the main street, small stalls are lined up in the space under the large arcade.
We have everything from food to accessories such as clothes and shoes, and daily necessities.

Mysterious food I found for the first time in Sutisan 20 baht

When I discover food I've never seen before, I get curious.
This looks like a food called "ขอ ปลากริมไข่เต่า", but even if I googled it, I couldn't figure out how to read it! It looks like it's some kind of sweets, but it's only 20 baht, so I bought it anyway.

As a result, I didn't really like it.

. . It has two layers of coconut-based white and brown paste, and is warm overall. The two layers are seasoned with "sweet taste" and "salty taste" respectively. Inside is something that looks like a thin, chewy rice cake. Is it something like Thai-style soup? I was fine with the sweet part, but the salty part was so salty that I didn't really like it. . . But encountering the unknown like this is the real thrill of traveling.

Features a cat's eye mark. Get coffee at “KATZE COFFEE”

I want to drink coffee to reset the aftertaste of the mysterious food I mentioned earlier.
. I found a small coffee shop in the middle of the market along Ratchadapisek Road.
The googly cat-like eye mark has a great impact. Here he got an espresso coffee (80 baht). Sweet and delicious.

The lady at the shop carefully brews a cup of coffee, and the result is a sweet and delicious cup of coffee!

Satisfy your appetite at the local food court

During my recent visit to Thailand, I used Sutisan as my base of activities, and my routine was to eat food in the morning at the food stalls. There are two food courts on the north and south sides under the arcade of Sutisan Market, each with about 20 food stalls. Thai people mostly eat out, and it is common for breakfast to be easily eaten at food stalls. We enjoyed street food while mingling with locals before going to work. There is a wide variety of items, and you can eat them for about 40B to 50B.

Food court (north side)

Food court on the north side. Since it was before noon, there were few customers.

The food court on the north side is spacious with plenty of seating.
Food stalls and coffee shops line the blue seating area. Here, we had ``Khao Man Gai & Khao Man Gai To'' where you can enjoy both Khao Man Gai and fried chicken at the same time.

"Khao Man Gai & Kao Man Gai To". Comes with soup.

Khao Man Gai and fried chicken cost 50 baht!
You can eat a lot at this price! After all, street food is the best value for money.

Food court (south side)

The other food court is structured with an eating space at the back of the food stall street zone.
You can sit and eat the manma you got from the food stalls in the back space.

Food court street on the south side. Delicious-looking gourmet food stalls are lined up on both sides. Gapao rice bento. 45 baht.

I don't really like gapao rice, so I often get confused and end up trying it lol.
Because delicious food is delicious no matter when you eat it.

Sutisan local market location

MRT Suthasan Station Exit 3

Exit from MRT Suttisan Station Exit 3 and go a little south along Ratchadapisek Road. I think you'll find out soon.

There's also a stylish cafe. "Pastel Cafe"

Recently, there have been an increase in the number of stylish cafes in Thailand.
Not only is the interior elaborate, but the beans are also authentic.
There are more and more environments where you can easily enjoy delicious coffee.

Pastel Cafe menu

This is a coffee specialty store, but the prices are relatively reasonable.
I ordered an iced mocha (55 baht).

I took this photo using "foodie", an image processing app used by Instagrammers. how is it? Are you in the mood? If it's in the morning, you can also have breakfast for 60 baht. Comes with drink, toast, and salad.
