Thailand's notorious taxis will undergo radical reform as Thai authorities launch new project

On January 25th, the Land Transport Department of Thailand's Ministry of Transport will launch ``Taxi OK'', a project aimed at drastically improving the service of Thailand's notorious taxis.

Approximately 20,000 taxis will be participating in the project, and when they are empty, their indicators will be green.

All vehicles will be equipped with a satellite positioning system (GPS), an emergency button for passengers and an in-vehicle video camera. Information on the driver, driving route, speed, etc., as well as real-time video inside the vehicle, will be monitored at the Land Transport Bureau's control center to improve safe operation and service. The fare is the same as a regular taxi, but an additional 20 baht will be added if you use the dedicated taxi dispatch app ``Taxi OK.'' Thai taxis are known for their rough behavior, dangerous driving, falsifying fares through various techniques such as meter tampering, and habitually refusing to ride.
Thai authorities have stepped up crackdowns, but so far there has been no noticeable effect. 《newsclip》
