Full of local feel! Lam Paya Floating Market in Nakhon Pathom

"Standard tourist spots are nice, but I want to go to hidden spots that don't get many foreign tourists!!"

"...Aryo..."

「!?」

"...a floating market that only locals do. Aryo..."

Hello, this is Macchan.

This time we will introduce a floating market that is only known to those in the know and is crowded with locals, with almost no tourists.

"Lampaya Floating Market" is located on the premises of the temple "Wat Lampaya" on the eastern edge of Nakhon Pathom province. I've been to Thailand a few times, and I love the markets and temples that have a local feel to them, and I can't help but get excited just by looking at them. You get it, right? This feeling! ?

What is Lampaya Floating Market?

Wat lam phaya

It is a floating market located within the grounds of Wat Lam Paya, and is not well known by foreign tourists, so it is said that it is rarely seen.

Admittedly, I only saw people from Thailand that day. This is a floating market, but instead of people coming by boat to sell things, there are rafts selling food and meals lined up along the Nakhon Chaisi River for about 200 meters.

The main focus is on food, and the area is very busy with many locals visiting on weekends. There are a lot of fish swimming in the river, and you can even feed the big catfish-like fish (they eat a lot).

In winter, you can also see the ski-billed stork (bird).
You can also enjoy a full day of canal tours by boat.

How I learned about Lampaya Floating Market

"...Machan, the fun part is Aryo..."

The reason why I came to Lampaya Floating Market was because my Thai friend (hereinafter referred to as "Porn") brought me there, and I didn't even know it existed.

The day before, we had gone to the Amphawa Floating Market, and by chance (really, by chance!) my girlfriend and I bumped into each other, and she told me that there was something interesting to see the next day, so she took me there in her car.

The illustration above is based on that pawn.

From the parking lot to the floating market

There are already many stalls lined up on the way down from the parking lot of Wat Lampaya to the floating market. Perhaps because it was raining a little today, there was something like a rain cloth hanging on the ceiling.

Guava, 35 baht each. 3 for 100 baht.

Thai fruits such as pineapple and mango are sweet and extremely delicious, but I also force myself to eat bitter fruits such as guava. Add some mysterious sweet and salty powder to it.

Various types of goldfish. 20 baht

Ornamental goldfish (?) in bags were on sale.
This style may be the first in Thailand. Is the black thing on the bottom right food?

Finally, to the floating market

Now, we have finally arrived at the ``Floating'' market.

It's still Saturday morning, but the place is buzzing with locals and the atmosphere is very lively. According to Pawn, this place is only open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It's also a "weekend market". It's hard to tell in the photo, but the food stalls are lined up so far that you can't see beyond the raft on the water.

Boats selling things are also parked on both sides here and there.
This is this. This is the floating market!

This place was on the way.
This is a little interesting. There is a square hole in the wooden part of the raft above the water, and the boats are floating side by side in a shape that fits perfectly into the hole, and freshly fried side dishes and skewers are sold there.

picture?

Isn't it better to have a food stall there? It is foolish to think such things. After all, this is a floating market. Even so, cooking fried food in the most unstable place ever. Don't get burned.

"Hey, Ni-chan! This is delicious! What do you think!?"
asked the man at the stall.

But I'm sorry, I ate at Sutisan the other day and I know it's weird. .

This is a fried paste made with corn and edamame. It smells really nice.

“Nakin!! (I want to eat it!)”

This is...wow!
Isn't it Pyonkichi? He was fried flat on his back like this.

. . And wait. . . Beyond that,

It’s here!
Horseshoe crab senior! ! This is our second appearance after Amphawa Floating Market!
Is there an unspoken rule to sell horseshoe crabs at floating markets?

"This (horseshoe crab)... is it good?"

"That's bad (straight face)"

Apparently, it is no good for Thai people to eat horseshoe crabs.

. . As noon approached, I was getting hungry, but I wanted to see the depths, so I continued on with Pawn.

Thai catfish? Feeding giant fish in the Nakhon Chaisi River

"Hey Macchan! There are so many fish!"

Oh, there are so many fish.
It looks like it's surrounded by a net, so I wonder if it's being farmed.
However, this fish is huge.
I think it's about 50cm long. This is also used as a food ingredient in the market.

Me feeding. It's hidden, but it's a big smile.

You can also feed fish like this catfish by selling bread for bait.
The moment you throw in the bread, the crowd will flock!
I force myself to eat even fairly large pieces. I think this fish will eat anything. .

Snap in front of the signboard.
Along with the fish feeding mentioned earlier, this is also a small photo-taking spot. Well, let's have lunch now.

Sweet Thai omelette and kuit tiao lunch

We all had lunch together. They bought me mousate and other things.

If we don't just feed the fish and take in some calories ourselves, we're going to get lost in this heat. So I decided to sit down at Kuittiao restaurant and have lunch.

Inside is like this

Pawn bought me something at the stall.
It looks like a fried egg. There are stir-fried vegetables inside. Garnishes include raw onions, cucumbers, and vinegar, which are apparently eaten together. It's really sweet when you try it! Hmm, maybe I'm not good at it. . . Sorry Pawn.

If you take a taxi from central Bangkok, the distance will be around 600 to 1000 baht. I think it will be.
