Thai airline NokScoot will launch a Narita-Bangkok flight. The campaign price is 9,500 yen (tax included), which is really cheap. Since it is an LCC, you cannot expect high service, but if safety is guaranteed, I am sure that it will become one of the new options for traveling to Thailand.



Thai low-cost carrier (LCC) NokScoot announced on the 23rd that it will launch a new route between Narita and Bangkok on June 1st.

The company aims to capture demand from the increasing numbers of visitors from Thailand and Japanese tourists traveling to Thailand. LCCs are gradually increasing even on international routes with relatively long range, such as between Japan and Thailand. While routes with discounted fares will become more familiar to consumers, competition between major carriers and LCCs is likely to intensify. Thai LCC NokScoot will launch flights between Narita and Bangkok in June.

Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, NokScoot's Japan branch manager Shigeki Tsubokawa said, ``With the launch of this service, we hope to boost not only inbound travel but also outbound travel from Japan.'' This is the first time the airline will operate a route to Japan.

The route between Narita and Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport will operate one round trip per day, with a total of 415 seats per flight. The minimum one-way fare excluding tax is 9,800 yen, but the one-way campaign price to commemorate the launch is 9,500 yen including tax. Demand for routes connecting Japan and Thailand is increasing not only for tourism but also for business travel, and major airlines are strengthening their routes by increasing flights.

LCCs will also stimulate demand and intensify competition by expanding their routes. NokScoot's Deputy CEO Ngan Min Tho said, ``We hope to launch flights to one or two other cities in addition to Narita within the next year.'' Kansai International Airport is a likely candidate. The number of medium- and long-distance international flights operated by LCCs is increasing in Japan, with routes such as those connecting Kansai and Honolulu being launched.

ANA Holdings' subsidiary Peach Aviation and Vanilla Air plan to launch medium-haul LCC flights from Japan by 2020, with a one-way flight time of about 7 to 9 hours. For consumers, the options for air shipping are likely to continue to expand, especially in Asia. NokScoot is a joint venture between Singaporean LCC Scoot and Thai LCC NokAir.

Based at Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport, it operates medium- and long-haul international LCCs to destinations such as China and Taiwan. Since its establishment in 2014, NokScoot has been planning a strategy to expand its routes to Japan and South Korea.

However, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced the results of an audit that found deficiencies in the Thai aviation authority's safety review system. As a result, Japan has refrained from launching new flights or increasing flights with Thai airlines.
